“A native Canadian, I grew up in Winnipeg as a small town girl with a big dream! When I was 15 years old, I moved away from my family to live in Toronto to better my gymnastics career and earned a spot on the Canadian National Team from 1988-1991. I was a bronze medalist at the 1991 Pan American Games in Cuba, and I was able to travel all over the world at a young age, enjoying the journey but not really thinking about my next path. Back then, recruiting happened a little later, especially being from Canada.
My senior year I was at Elite Canada and noticed a bunch of College Coaches from the United States in the stands, many of whom approached me afterwards. Woah! I was overwhelmed and uncertain about what that all meant!
Within two months of that meet, I had visited Penn State, LSU and the University of Florida. That was enough for me to choose from! I landed with the Gators as I felt most “at home” there and the academics and athletics were equally as strong, and it just all felt like it was where I was meant to be. There I was an All American and part of the first team to compete in the Super Six finals at the NCAA Championships. During my fifth year I served as a student-coach and immediately fell in love with it.
Upon graduation I found myself searching for my next path. What in the world would I do without gymnastics? I spent a year working at Coca-Cola in Atlanta during the Olympics and moved back to Canada to work at a public relations firm, my major in college. My passion for coaching was stirring and I soon after moved back to the United States to start my college coaching career at NC State. I was with the Wolfpack for five years before taking another opportunity at the University of Arizona. After six years there, I came back to NC State in 2004 to serve as Associate Head Coach and start my own family here in Raleigh.
My favorite part of coaching college gymnastics was mentoring and guiding young people to become the best versions of themselves, not just as gymnasts, but as a young women once their gymnastics careers are done and their next steps in life are just beginning. I absolutely loved recruiting and finding the best fit for young people to fulfill their college dream.
In 2017, I switched over to the administration side of Athletics, working as Director of Special Events, and also coach at a local gym club in Raleigh and as a freelance choreographer. I am a mother of an avid youth soccer player, Gianna, and live on a beautiful lake just East of Raleigh. I believe all of my experiences as a gymnast, coach, administrator and mom are what make up for who I am and why I am so passionate about working as an advisor with JH Consulting.”
